Best of Show: Elephant with Yellow Flowers by Mary Zrubek

I have worked in the travel industry for many, many years. From a very early age my dreams were to visit Africa and Russia. I still haven’t made it to Russia but someday I will.

My first trip to Africa came about when I worked as a travel agent, and then I went to work for tour operators that specialized in Africa.

There must be a lot of gypsy in me because I am originally from Kansas and have lived in Denver (3 times), Chicago twice, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, New Jersey, Houston twice, Billings twice, and I have been fortunate enough to work in South Africa and Zimbabwe for a couple of years, all since I started my travel career.

I have so much fun with photography. I’m definitely an amateur at it and I always amaze myself with how many shots I get that I didn’t know I’ve accidentally taken – backs of people’s heads, the top of the vehicle, my feet, etc. Fun, that’s what it’s all about.
